Waymo and Fiat Chrysler sign a partnership deal to develop self-driving cars
The self-driving car company Waymo LLC and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV (FCHA.MI) signed a partnership deal on Wednesday to fully develop self-driving cars, pickups, and SUVs.
Waymo, an Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL.O) unit, and Fiat Chrysler said that they would work together to focus on developing robotic Ram ProMaster light commercial vehicles.
They also stated that Waymo Via’s autonomous goods delivery unit would use some vehicles co-developed with Fiat Chrysler.
“The expanded partnership with Fiat Chrysler will cover ride-hailing, commercial delivery, and personal-use vehicles around the world,” Waymo’s Chief Executive Officer John Krafcik said in a statement.
The new alliance came after Waymo said last month that it would work with Volvo cars to integrate its technology into a “mobility-focused electric vehicle platform for ride-hailing services.”
Fiat Chrysler also partnered with BMW AG (BMWG.DE) and Intel Corp (INTC.O) to enhanced automated driving technology.
