New Zealand stock exchange suffers outage due to cyberattack

On Wednesday, the New Zealand stock exchange (NZX.NZ) has been shut down because of a severe cyberattack from overseas.

Cash market trading was halted after the cyberattack took down the NZX website just before 9:30 AM AEST.

The NZX said that it had experienced “network connectivity issues” and that the NZX main board, NZX debt market, and Fonterra shareholders market were placed on halt.

The NZX confirmed that the attack came from outside New Zealand. However, the company did not specify where.

“NZX confirms that it is working with its network service provider to address a further issue today, impacting NZX system connectivity,” the New Zealand stock exchange said in a statement.

“NZX’s network provider continues to investigate the source of the issue. We will provide further information once available,” it added.
