Norwegian Yara stops purchases in Russia
Yara, the world’s largest supplier of mineral fertilizers from Norway, announced the cessation of purchases from companies from the Russian Federation in connection with additional sanctions that the European Union introduced on Wednesday this week. The company cannot now make purchases from those enterprises in Russia that are related to persons who find themselves under anti-Russian sanctions against the backdrop of the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine. In this regard, Yara is considering the options it has that will enable it to ensure a consistent supply of food commodities using the existing global production system. At the same time, the fertilizer supplier notes that there is a threat of supply problems that could affect global food security. As a result, Yara has called on the Norwegian government to take action to reduce dependence on the Russian Federation and protect food supply chains.
