Indonesia launches website for smoother business permit process
Indonesia introduced on Monday what it considered an important milestone in reforms with a website that processes investment permits. The launch was aimed at doing business easier and quicker in the country.
President Joko Widodo committed to solve issues in red tape, rigid labor laws, and poor infrastructure to compete with Vietnam and Thailand in attracting investments.
The oss.go.id website’s “Online Single Submission” will evaluate investment proposals based on their level of risk. Investments with lower risk only need to register, while those with medium risk have to meet national standards.
The website is part of the controversial Job Creation Law signed last year against opposition from unions, environmentalists, and other critics who saw it as too pro-business. It allows Jokowi’s new investment ministry to intervene when local authorities take too long to respond.
