Foxconn: recent Reuters report on factory resumption in China, not factual
Taiwan’s Foxconn said on Thursday that the recent Reuters reports about the company resuming operations in production plants were not factual.
The contract electronics manufacturer, currently supplying tech giant Apple Inc, made the comment in a statement to the Taipei stock exchange. However, Foxconn, formally called Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd, did not elaborate on its current production status.
On Wednesday, Reuters reported that Foxconn had plans to resume operations on two of its plants in China despite the impact of the coronavirus in the country. Citing a source who claimed to be with direct knowledge in the situation, the Reuters report said that Foxconn aimed to resume production even after only 10% of its total workforce returned.
“Recently, Reuters reports on the group’s overall resumption schedule for the mainland China plants are not factual, and Hon Hai hereby clarifies it,” Foxconn said in the statement.
“In the past, the aforementioned media’s reports related to the group’s mainland China plants resumption are mostly not factual,” it said, adding that the reports have caused “misunderstandings and difficulties for employees, investors and the general public.”
Foxconn said its China-based teams are currently working closely with their respective local government agencies to implement post-holiday factory schedules.
