Facebook to launch new gaming app: New York Times
Facebook Inc (FB.O) will introduce a newly-developed mobile gaming application on Monday. The application was designed to bring a live game streaming experience in an attempt to compete against Amazon.com Inc’s Twitch, Google’s Youtube, and Microsoft Corp’s Mixer services.
“Investing in gaming, in general, has become a priority for us because we see gaming as a form of entertainment that really connects people,” said Fidji Simo, head developer.
“It’s entertainment that’s not just a form of passive consumption but entertainment that is interactive and brings people together,” he added.
Aside from its live-streaming feature, the application offers casual games and access to gaming communities. Moreover, the iOs version will be available upon Apple’s approval, according to the report released by the New York Times.
The report also stated that it was set to be released in June but the company opted in releasing it early as quarantine restricts people from going out of their home.
