Ether breaches $4,000 level, other cryptos steady
Ether reached greater heights on Monday after breaching the $4,000 level. Ether’s new record high today is the crypto’s new peak for the third time in a row. The surge is riding on growing optimism that Ether and other cryptocurrencies will be used on a wider scale.
On the Binance exchange, Ether was last up around 6% for the day where it posted $4,119. Bitcoin, the world’s largest cryptocurrency, jumped to $59,603 and dogecoin firmed around $0.54.
Bitcoin reached a three-week high and one-time parody currency dogecoin steadied, halting a sharp decline after comments from Tesla CEO Elon Musk sent it crashing on Sunday.
Bitcoin has doubled, ether has climbed more than fivefold this year, and dogecoin more than a hundredfold as a euphoric mood has spilled over from bitcoin into other crypto assets.
Based on CoinMarketCap, ether’s total number of tokens in circulation is $477 billion, compared with $1.1 trillion for bitcoin and $69 billion for dogecoin.
