Dollar recovers, places below one-year high
The dollar rose on Friday morning in Asia but below a one-year high following an improvement in risk appetite. Meanwhile, the Australian dollar hovered near a three-week high after gaining 0.55% versus the U.S. dollar.
The U.S. Dollar Index that measures the greenback against other major currencies climbed 0.01% to 94.233 by 10:37 PM ET (2:37 AM GMT).
The USD/JPY pair gained 0.25% to 111.87.
The AUD/USD pair nudged 0.06% higher to 0.7316, while the NZD/USD pair soared 0.34% to 0.6945.
The USD/CNY pair tallied an increase of 0.08% to 6.4502, while the GBP/USD pair declined 0.01% to 1.3615.
On Thursday, the U.S. Senate moved to temporarily raise the debt ceiling, preventing a severe financial default. Global energy price falls also alleviated stagflation concerns.
Meanwhile, investors are still expecting the next U.S. jobs data, including non-farm payrolls due today. The report could have an effect on the Federal Reserve’s schedule for asset tapering.
