Chinese official says breakthroughs made in Asia trade talks
A Chinese official on Monday said that breakthroughs had been made in negotiations for an Asian-wide pact that is said to be the world’s biggest trade deal. However, consultations with India are still under way, he said.
The details of the deal will be announced later in the day by the leaders who attended the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Bangkok according to Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng.
Thailand, the host country, had said prior that the deal would be prepared and ready to be signed in 2020 by its 10 ASEAN members plus China, South Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and India.
