Boohoo to review labor violations of its Leicester suppliers
On Friday, Boohoo (BOOH.L) stated that it would have an independent review of significant labor violations at its garment suppliers located in Leicester.
The United Kingdom-based online fashion retailer company said that it would look into allegations about poor factory working conditions.
According to the company, Boohoo’s independent review would be headed by senior lawyer Alison Levitt.
“Ms. Levitt is satisfied that Boohoo did not deliberately allow poor conditions and low pay to exist within its supply chain, it did not intentionally profit from them, and its business model is not founded on exploiting workers in Leicester,” the company said in a statement.
“This (review) has identified significant and clearly unacceptable issues in our supply chain and the steps we had taken to address them,” Boohoo’s Chief Executive Officer John Lyttle stated.
“It is clear that we need to go further and faster to improve our governance, oversight and compliance,” he added.
Boohoo’s shares climbed by 17% on Friday morning while recovering from a stock slump that began three months ago.
